As a professional novel cover illustrator, you drew a lot of good looking female, but then on your recent show you exhibited a lot of gore and obscene related object. Tell us more about this different personalities.
I think that’s my ‘other side’ that you’re talking to J ..i grew up in watching a lot of horror-movie, so that’s became my ‘ultimate’ inspiration, u know…and, that’s my first big-exhibition so I just draw about things that I really like, but never show it to the audience.. The illustration style is basically about “finding some untouched areas of the mind and stimulating the eye and imagination. And for drawing good-looking females…I’m just doing my…well….normal job

What’s your favorite media to work?
Watercolor, pen and ink

Any other future plan?
Drawing a cartoon-strip for the local newspaper, make a comic book, trying to paint on canvas, and maybe doing another exhibition.

Doing great. Just woke up, since I was awake at the coffee store drawing late into the night.

How do you get your inspiration come? especially in he color you use and the coloring techniques that seems varied from each of your works?
My inspiration comes from mostly my environment, and an eagerness to abstract it to a level that portrays a certain mood. I’m really into natural organic form, human form, and also some man-made things I suppose. The color techniques change, whether I’m doing a drawing, painting on paper, or painting on panel. The color usually changes because I think it would be constricting to apply color just one way; Its good to explore different ways and levels of saturation, and there’s no reason you have to just settle with choosing one.

How to keep your creativity working?
Keep art on your mind, look at other artists that inspire you, and get motivated to keep working. Devote a lot of time to working through ideas. Sometimes I have non-creative bouts, but more often the problem is not liking any ideas I have for creations. Its a mind game, but you just struggle through it and think of something new.

Drawing with pen/ink, and painting with acrylics.

Your future plan?
I’d like to keep making art for a living and I’d like to have another show next year. Maybe eventually get representation from Artist Representation Firm, and do illustration for companies that way. I like living in Grand Rapids, MI, but I’d like to possibly move somewhere else too. Besides that, I want to keep traveling and backpack a lot more than I have been.

How do you get your inspiration come? especially for the color you use and the kind of monster that each one different than the other.
I like the idea that I am creating an entire world of monsters. There are no twins in the monster world. Every single one is different. My inspiration comes from all different places… my imagination is filled with these little monsters. A lot of the time, my inspiration comes from the monsters that are living under my bed!

Favorite media to channel your imagination?
All of my monsters are made out of vinyl. The bright colors make it so fun to create them. Polka dots, stripes, combinations of both. I’ve started putting little hearts on all of the monsters butts. I call them heartbutt monsters! Monsters might be scary to some, but they are truly full of love, these hearts are proof.

I have a really awesome show coming up this weekend! Its called Urban Craft Uprising. You can get all of the info here: http://www.urbancraftuprising.com/ It is Seattle’s biggest indie craft show. This is their Summer 2010 version. I am soooooo excited to be a part of it! Its July 10th and 11th at the Seattle Center. And make sure to check out their blog, they are doing tons of giveaways! And the first 100 people in the door get swag bags, full of all kinds of goodies. How do you begin your career as illustrator?
I just quit my job. Was working in a game developer, advertising agencies then work here and there in film production houses, also in records label. In the end, I just wanna grab my pencil and draw. I didn’t know if I could make illustration as a career, so it was a gambling back then. But there are always upsides and downsides in every profession you choose, so why not choose the one you most passionate about? To make it short, I didn’t think about it. I just did it. Even if I get hurt so many times, stuck in so many downsides of it, I keep coming back doing what I do. I guess, it’s like an addiction. Never been so dedicated before in my life. I just know I was meant to do this. There’s no turning back.

How to keep your creativity works?
I think I try to keep myself open to almost anything. I mean, even a boring mundane everyday life can be an inspiration. So keep observing, collecting every details I like everyday. It doesn’t have to be an object, it can be a sound or even just be a split second of a moment.

Favorite media?
Pencil and graphite.

What’s your favorite object?
Waves.

Do you have any tips to keep the mood flowing?
Make sure you always get a good laid. Ha! Honestly, no. I don’t have any tips. I guess, as I get older I just know how to switch my mood easier.

Your future plan?
I consider myself more of a doer than a planner. So I don’t really like to share my plans unless it almost near launch. So, just wait and see.

Make drawing fun. There’s a lot of joy in simply drawing things. Often I compare myself to other artist and obviously I become intimidated, and then drawing becomes a struggle to reach someone else’s level. But while knowing your weaknesses and working hard is good, obviously, taking it too serious takes the joy away.There is a lot of exercise, like blind drawing, to connect again to the feeling of joy. 3. you have some drawing that showing a lil girl nipple, do you have a background stories about it?
Those are not really little girls, more like ghosts of a woman’s past. Where the sexuality already was there but under a blanket of confusion. The naked “little girls” are something I don’t really consciously put int the drawings, they just show up. Maybe, deep down, I’m convinced that there is this little kid in all girls, both innocent and spooky,yet scared at the same time. Something we must take care of, and also keep it secret. Little girls are beautiful and when you grow up you see their charm, but also you cannot ever again enter into that world, so the adults are very often embarassed and shy around growing up girls. There’s a mystery to them that we lose acess too. But they are in us, adult girls, creeped out and creeping us out.
